Boost Your PageRank

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Google is going to be updating their PageRank next month and my team has been working away to boost our PR on a few of my sites. (A higher PR leads to higher rankings assuming your website is optimized correctly)

This is a bit tedious but I just bought some new software from Brad Callen which is awesome. The ‘work’ involves sitting around drinking chai and listening to audio-books while we submit the sites semi-automatically to hundreds of
directories. There are over 2200 quality directories that you can easily submit to using this new software! This is an excellent way to get quality one-way links.

I expect my sites PR’s to rise substantially next month, just from a few days of work. Here is the link for the software, I highly recommend it: http://www.affordable-seoservices.com/recommends/directory-submitter

Submitting Your Blog to Directories

Submit Em Now is a great tool that I highly recommend for submitting your blog to blog directories.  It’s a firefox extension and makes submitting really easy.

You simply fill out your information once, and then go to each of the blog directories in its database and it will fill out all the forms for you. Blog directories are much easier and faster to submit to than regular directories. Over the last hour I have already submitted my blog to 50 directories!

Another bonus about blog directories is that most do not ask for a link back, so this is a fantastic way to get a bunch of one-way links without spending too much effort (and no money).  Many of these blog directories have a high PageRank and if your blog is not on your home page, you’re also getting deep-links (links to pages deep in your site)  which are considered more valuable in the eyes of the search engines.

And, you will start to get more visitors from people that find you while visiting these directories. A big thankyou to Submit Em Now for doing a fantastic job and being a big time-saver!

Google Videos - Validation problem solved

Today I’ve been remodelling my Hawaiian Massage website and I decided to embed my Google Video instead of using my previous flash video. After I finished and was going through the Html Validator I noticed a bunch of errors, suprise!

I noticed that there were about 10 errors for the code Google gave me to embed their video. Ironic? (this may turn into a Google rant…) but first, here’s the code to fix the problem:

<object type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” data=”http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=7136800123852032957″ width=”400″ height=”326″><param name=”movie” value=”http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=7136800123852032957″ /><param name=”FlashVars” value=”playerMode=embedded” /></object>

Notice how I stripped this little bit of code from the end of the video url: &hl=en - that causes invalid html!

OK, now for the rant. Don’t we all have a love-hate relationship with Google? LOVE the traffic.. Ok, maybe hate is a little strong, annoyed and concerned would be good replacements.

Annoyed because Google tells us not to do anything to our site that we wouldn’t do for regular visitors. What nerve to say that! Do you really want your website to rank in the 6,542 place? They give us a code to embed videos on our site that causes errors and lowers our rankings?

Concerned because even though I love much of the super-intelligent stuff Google’s doing, it’s very dangerous for them to have a monopoly on search. Thank-you Yahoo! and msn. Gotta love the “Do No Evil” motto. but who’s the judge? ok, finished.

Can someone please start a new search engine that’s super-intelligent AND has a profit sharing program based on how much you use them?! : )

When does Google Update their PageRank?

Google updates their PageRank every quarter. The next update is expected sometime in the last 2 weeks of July.

Recently, Google has also updated the amount of backlinks that they are showing for each site. Before you could see a website showing hundreds of backlinks in Yahoo! and very few in Google. Now they are starting to show more backlinks which is a good thing.

As it is easier to obtain lower PR links, it appears they will have more of a benefit than before. We’ll see what progresses…
